Background
Mary recently retired after a six-year tenure as President & CEO of Calgary Economic Development (CED) and CEO of Opportunity Calgary Investment Fund (OCIF) and the Calgary Film Centre Ltd. In 2018, Mary took a leave of absence serve as the CEO of the Calgary 2026 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Bid Committee.
Mary led Calgary’s economic diversification strategy entitled “Calgary in the New Economy,” which resulted in the attraction of large multinational companies such as BASF, Infosys, Mphasis, and Amazon, and high growth tech companies such as Harvest Builders, Neo Financial, and Finger Food Advance Technology Group.
During her tenure at CED, Mary’s team won more than 200 industry and marketing awards. Mary also led the development of the official promotional brand for the city – “Calgary – Be Part of the Energy” and other award-winning campaigns such as the post-flood initiative “YYC is OPEN” and the Amazon HQ2 pitch.
Mary built an extensive network locally, nationally, and globally, and had notable success negotiating additional grant funding, and in tripling the funding into the organization from the private sector. Prior to CED, she had a thirty-year career with a focus on branding and marketing, sales, strategy, and client loyalty for companies with some of Canada’s strongest brands, including Wardair, Canadian Airlines, Delta Hotels and TELUS.
Mary is a committed community builder and has served on more than fifteen non-profit boards; holding the Board of Directors Chair position for both Sport Calgary and Ronald McDonald House Southern Alberta and serving as Chair of various committees. Mary is currently the chair of Kudos Inc., a privately held software development technology company based in Calgary.
Mary holds a Master of Business Administration from Royal Roads University and since retiring from CED, Mary has earned her ICD.D designation, completed the Indigenous Canada program at the University of Alberta, earned a Respect in the Workplace certificate and is learning French through Alliance Francaise.
